Bat Masterson as a real person was a U.S. Army scout, lawman, professional gambler, and journalist. Masterson was known for his exploits in the 19th and early 20th-century American Old West. He moved to the Western frontier as a young man and quickly distinguished himself as a buffalo hunter, civilian scout, and Indian fighter on the Great Plains. He later earned fame as a gunfighter and sheriff in Dodge City, Kansas.

Bat Masterson of Kansas (1954)
Dodge City Sheriff Bat Masterson is out to prove that a group of cattlemen have framed Merrick for murder. Merrick negotiated a treaty granting the Kiowas a reserve in the grass country that the cattlemen wanted for their own grazing land. The tribes will wage war again if Merrick is executed so Masterson begins a search for Clay Bennett. Bennett testified he saw the murder. Joining him in the hunt is Marshal Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, both for different purposes. Masterson and Holliday have a long standing feud but the latter is persuaded by Merrick’s daughter to help.
Directed by William Castle, this movie is in Technicolor with a run time of 73 minutes.

Gunfight at Dodge City (1959)
Bat Masterson doesn’t look for trouble, but he doesn’t walk away from it. When an army sergeant in Hays City tries to kill Bat and dies for his trouble, Bat heads for Dodge City where Ed, his brother, is city marshal and a candidate for county sheriff running against the corrupt Regan. Bat buys a share in a local saloon, partnering with the widow Lily. After an ambush, Bat finds himself a candidate for sheriff and the heir to Ed’s intentions toward Pauline, a minister’s daughter. Can the upright but not always law-abiding gunslinger and saloon owner become a lawman and settle down? Or will trouble keep finding him?
