Butterfly Wishes Art Native American Legend Verse
Butterfly Wishes is a wonderful and inspirational way to remind someone special their wishes can come true. The artwork compliments the legend like none other could.
Butterfly Wishes: The Legend
The legend reads as follows:
“To make a wish come true,
whisper it to a butterfly.
Upon these wings it will be granted,
for they are the messengers
of the Great Spirit.”
-Native American Legend
Did You Know?
“The Great Spirit” is the English translation of the name of the creator god in many Native American traditions, particularly Algonquian and Siouan tribes. Algonquian tribes were the first Native Americans encountered by English speakers. Thus, “Great Spirit” became a common term referring to Native American creator deities in general. “Great Spirit” was frequently used as the word for “God” in translations of Christian texts into Native American languages. Many Native American people consider the Great Spirit and the Christian God to be one and the same. Other Native American people are less receptive to this idea.
