It Came From Outer Space 1953 Horror Sci-Fi
Stars: Richard Carlson, Barbara Rush, Charles Drake
It Came From Outer Space Story Line. Amateur astronomer John Putnam and his fiancee Ellen Fields are stargazing in the desert when a spaceship bursts from the sky and crashes to the ground. Just before a landslide buries the ship, a mysterious creature emerges and disappears into the darkness. John is not trusted by the people of the small town near where he lives, especially by Sheriff Matt Warren, who feels protective of Ellen, and perhaps something more. Of course, when John tells his story to the sheriff, John is branded a crack-pot, but before long, strange things begin to happen, and the tide of disbelief turns…
Some of the townsfolk begin acting strange, as if they aren’t really who they seem to be.
Charles Drake (Tobor the Great) is the skeptical sheriff. Russell Johnson plays both a human and an alien (a treat for genre’ fans). The supporting cast includes Joe Sawyer and Kathleen Hughes. Special effects by David S. Horsely and the great Clifford Stine. Makeup by Bud Westmore, of the famous Westmore family who contributed much to the Star Trek spin-offs.
It Came From Outer Space is a moody and beautiful movie, with fine music by Henry Mancini. Many fans of Jack Arnold’s sci-fi films consider this one his best.
Based on a story by acclaimed writer Ray Bradbury, this is a science fiction classic that is as thought-provoking and tantalizing today as it was when it first landed on the silver screen.
