Cimarron Kid 1952 Audie Murphy Western
Stars: Audie Murphy, Beverly Tyler, James Best
The Cimarron Kid Story Line. Audie Murphy comes into his own as a Western star in The Cimarron Kid. Wrongly accused by crooked railroad officials of aiding a train heist by his old friends the Daltons, he joins their gang and becomes an active participant in other robberies. Betrayed by a fellow gang member, Murphy becomes a fugitive in the end. Seeking refuge at the ranch of a reformed gang member, he hopes to flee with the man’s daughter to South America, but he’s captured in the end and led off to jail. The girl promises to wait.
The Cimarron Kid is high on action and filled with lovely outdoor photography. Locations used are the historical parks at Columbia State and Railtown 1897. Both are photographed expertly by Boyle. Boetticher deftly utilizes them to aid the story. The best action comes with a shoot out and escape after the Coffeyville bank raids (resplendent with burning hay wagon). The excellent extended shoot-out centered around Railtown’s turntable is one of the finest action scenes on Boetticher’s CV. Cast are strong, led superbly by a thoughtful Murphy performance of substance.
Tagline: He led the last great outlaw raids!
