Millicent Jordan is pre-occupied with the plans she is making for a high-class dinner party. Her husband Oliver is in failing health, and he is also worried because someone is trying to buy up the stock in his shipping business – even his old friend Carlotta wants to sell her stock. Hoping to get help from businessman Dan Packard, he persuades Millicent, against her wishes, to invite Packard and his wife to the dinner. As Oliver’s problems get worse, Millicent is increasingly quick-tempered because the plans for the party are not going smoothly. As the time for the dinner approaches, it appears that the hosts and the guests will all have plenty on their minds.

Emma (1932)

Stars of Emma: Marie Dressler, Richard Cromwell, Jean Hersholt

Watching after her rich employer’s motherless brood, elderly housekeeper Emma finds love in a very unexpected place. But an accusation of murder is only one of the burdens she’ll have to bear on her weary old shoulders before she finds a way to be useful again.

Notable Note: At the time she made this film, Marie Dressler was Hollywood’s greatest star. An unlikely celebrity sensation, with her homely face and shapeless body, Dressler was nonetheless adored by the American public who could sense her basic decency and goodness. For a few brief years she became the nation’s grandma, someone with whom the public could feel completely comfortable. Dressler seemed to typify the virtues of hard work and plainspoken honesty – attributes which counted for much in the Great Depression’s darkest days.

Shipping Note

Since the never-ending rise of postal rates the last year, I can and will still ship free; however, I will be using USPS First Class only – in other words, no tracking for single DVD orders. First Class is extremely reliable and rarely has problems within the continental United States. I’ve talked with my postal carrier at great length and he recommended it for savings on my enormous postage costs. It’s either this, or raise my prices, which I’m trying not to do.

THAT SAID! 😉 On orders of 2 or more DVDs, I WILL be purchasing tracking. Just the single DVD packages will be void of a tracking number. I know the majority of my buyers will understand. If you’re a new visitor and not comfortable with this, you could go to the Bonanza Mayda Mart Booth and see if I have what you want listed there. Thank you!
