Mr. Winkle Goes to War 1944 Edward G Robinson Comedy
Stars: Edward G. Robinson, Ruth Warrick, Ted Donaldson
Mr. Winkle Goes To War Story Line. No one could play snarling gangster and mild-mannered, henpecked husband as adeptly as Edward .G Robinson. In this likeable war movie he’s the latter. A bank clerk who gets the chance to realize his dream of working with his hands. Just as he begins to fulfill his dream, he’s inducted into the army during WWII. Robinson carries off his role with style.
Edward G Robinson is wonderful as Wilbert Winkle. A meek and short man that has several problems. A personality that is timid and an office job in a bank that curtails his creativity. His wife is not very supportive. They have no children. He is a man so timid he asks his boss if he can quit! Wilbert is a man that just exists and never makes a difference in this world. Could that change?
Max is Gino’s favorite child – and a lawyer. When the Feds start investigating Gino, Max comes up with a solution. If all the brothers will take responsibility for the sloppiness at the bank, the Feds won’t be able to pin anything on anybody. But the sons refuse to lift a finger to help their father, ultimately forcing him out and starting their own bank. Max goes to prison for attempting to bribe a juror. After seven years in prison, Max goes to the bank and promises revenge.
Tagline: Mr. Winkle goes to war…and your heart goes with him!
Mr. Winkle Goes To War is a fine acting vehicle for Robinson to display his acting skill in a film that you will enjoy!
