Untamed Frontier 1952 Joseph Cotten Western
Stars: Joseph Cotten, Shelley Winters, Scott Brady
Untamed Frontier Story Line. Three years after the end of the Apache wars, peacemaking chief Cochise dies. The Denbow family hope to freeze out homesteaders by denying access across their land. To evade a murder charge, Glenn Denbow marries the only witness, Jane, who’s in love with him, but favors the settlers. When Glenn goes back to his blackmailing old flame Lottie, a warm regard develops between Jane and cousin Kirk Denbow. Things come to a head when an impending range war coincides with a rustling foray.
Tagline: The last great Texas range wars! … against the iron hand of the ruthless cattle barons!
The visuals in Untamed Frontier are interesting, and the acting talent is impeccable. Minor Watson is great as the head of the ranch. If you look hard, you can see Lee van Cleef and Fess Parker in his first screen appearance.
Side Note: Someone using a bogus email chastised me for supposedly spelling “cotton” wrong. To avoid future confusion, Joseph Cotten did spell his name with an “e”, not an “o”. See his bio on IMDB to confirm.
