Whispering Smith American Western Series 1961
Stars: Audie Murphy, Guy Mitchell, Sam Buffington
Whispering Smith is an American Western series that aired on NBC. Based on a 1948 movie, the series stars Audie Murphy as Tom “Whispering” Smith, a police detective in Denver, Colorado. Filming of the series began in 1959, but the program did not air until May 8, 1961, because of unexpected production problems.
Smith was a detective on the Denver, Colorado Police Department in the 1870’s. This show took case histories from Smith’s adventures. George Romack was Smith’s partner and John Richards was the police chief.
If you are a fan of westerns or of anything featuring Audie Murphy, then you will love watching any of these episodes. Audie Murphy’s pleasant, easy going manner and his quiet toughness make him a western hero unlike any other seen on the screen. The stellar acting of Murphy makes it well worth while.
Whispering Smith combines elements of CBS’s Have Gun Will Travel starring Richard Boone, NBC’s Tales of Wells Fargo starring Dale Robertson, the syndicated Shotgun Slade with Scott Brady, and ABC’s The Man From Blackhawk, a Stirling Silliphant production starring Robert Rockwell.
