Woman Obsessed 1959 Susan Hayward Stephen Boyd Drama Romance
Stars: Susan Hayward, Stephen Boyd, Barbara Nichols
Woman Obsessed Story Line. After her husband Franz dies in a fire, a woman is left to tend to the family farm on her own. She has for her young son to help, but they need a man with more experience to help with chores. She soon meets a drifting handyman who she hires to assist her and her son on the farm. The two fall in love, and a resentment begins to build between the son and his new step-father because he treats the boy harshly on purpose.
Due to The Code, Hayward had other needs that are subtly suggested. In addition, Boyd has a superficial resemblance to Franz. But it’s only superficial. Boyd is inarticulate and almost surly at times, especially around young the son, Dennis Holmes.
The strength of Woman Obsessed was the fact that the plot could have gone in several directions. Boyd’s very inarticulateness could have hidden great sadness, great humanity, or an incredible villainy. You really don’t know until the end how it will turn out. Though Hayward is top billed, the film really does turn on Boyd’s performance.
